In 1984, Tim and Keith proudly voted on election day.To celebrate, they headed to the liquor store
to get beer and watch race cars at the track.Alas, they learned that lawmakers didn’t feel voters should be able to
purchase alcohol during poll hours.Perhaps
Orwell was on to something.
As fate would have it, The Professor had a bottle of Dewer’s
in his apartment.Ever open-minded, the
young gentlemen decided to spend a sunny day with scotch, soda, and Indy
cars.Perhaps this event was the early
seedling of this great institution?Can
anyone say “Archduke Ferdinand”?
Tim is known as “The Liberal”.He fancies himself a
post-neo-oldschool-liberal.Enough said.
In the book world, Tim favors fiction – literary or
otherwise – but has had his mind brightened by many great books in all genres;
books he likely would not have read save for the fine and wise gents of the
SDBC.A founding member – Tim has had a
few lapses in attendance over the years due to a life filled with stories, real
or otherwise.The club has always
welcomed him back.
Tim is the founder of the 9-10 Project, a project designed
to bring us all back to the place we were on 9-10-2001.A place where we could all voice our varying
opinions and take large tubes of toothpaste on airplanes – a celebration of the
richness and complexity of life in America.A place where we happily moved about in blissful ignorance of some
threats, sure – but also a place where calmness, confidence, and rationality
ruled the day - sometimes.A place and
time when we still did not think torture was okay – ever. You can check out the website when BC builds
it.
Rats and roaches live by competition under the laws of
supply and demand; it is the privilege of human beings to live under the laws
of justice and mercy. - Wendell Berry
