Chris
"Scotchman" - I am the latest member to join. First attended in February 2007 at the request of Mic (thank you) who graciously invited me to be an occasional guest. I guess my knowledge of scotch impressed them enough to invite me back. I remember that night well. It was a cold night and we sat in the basement at Chateaux Mic by a roaring hot fire in the cast iron stove. We read "God Bless You Mr. Rosewater" chosen by Tim. I don't always have as much to contribute to the book side of things but I do learn a lot from the other guys and I always enjoy listening to the lively discussions...especially
those between Tim and Bob!
I am the host for the annual Burns Night which has been going on for the past 3 years. Always a good time for food and drink...especially for those who can survive past midnight to enjoy a special treat!
I am the only one with no air traffic controlling experience. I am the oddball in that sense. I take care of any of the foot problems with the group.
I do enjoy my scotch. At last count I had 73 different bottles. Tim and I seem to have very similar tastes and our ratings usually reflect that. I donated the Glencairn glasses to everyone in the club....now if they would just remember to bring them to the meetings!!
I am in favor of the 1/4 point system.
My favorite scotches tend to be on the heavy, smoky, peaty side. Islays are my favorite. Ardbeg, Laphroig, Talisker (non Islay) are among my favorites. I always enjoy researching them and carry my Whisky Bible by Jim Murray to every meeting. I look forward to hosting book club so I can pick a great scotch. My choices so far have been hits: Glenlivet Nadurra (which coined the term "nadurresque") and Ardmore.
My favorite book club selection to date was "Mountains Beyond Mountains ."
